Grant Update: Latino Community Center

In June 2017, the Latino Community Center won the WHAMglobal Pittsburgh's Big Idea Challenge. Since then, the Latino Community Center has been working to improve the health of Latina moms in Pittsburgh through education and prenatal classes.

On Saturday, May 19th, the Latino Community Center's Maternal Health Group hosted their first ever Breastfeeding Training in Spanish at the Midwife Center. Support came from the Jewish Healthcare Foundation and Gateway Health Plan.

Fourteen women participated in the training from all across Allegheny County. The training had two goals: 1) educating Latina women on breastfeeding, and 2) giving the training participants the tools to support other Spanish speaking moms-to-be on the importance of breastfeeding.

WHAMglobal is honored to support the Latino Community Center's Maternal Health Project, and we look forward to upcoming updates.
