Founding President and CEO Karen Wolk Feinstein to Retire After 35 Years of Leadership; Planned Transition Positions JHF for Its Next Era
PITTSBURGH, PA — The Jewish Healthcare Foundation (JHF) today announced that Daniel Rosen, PhD, MSW, has been selected by the Foundation's Board of Trustees to serve as its next President and Chief Executive Officer. Effective July 1, 2026, Dr. Rosen will succeed founding President and CEO Karen Wolk Feinstein, PhD, who will retire after leading the organization for 35 years.
The July 1 leadership transition represents the culmination of a deliberate multi-year succession planning process undertaken by the Foundation's Board and leadership team to ensure continuity of mission, strong organizational stewardship, and sustained momentum in addressing the health and social challenges facing communities throughout Pennsylvania and beyond.
Dr. Rosen currently serves as Executive Vice President of JHF, where he works closely with Dr. Feinstein, the Board of Trustees, senior leadership, and community partners to guide the Foundation's strategic direction, governance, and collaborative initiatives. Prior to joining the Foundation's executive team, Dr. Rosen served nearly a decade on JHF's Board of Trustees, including leadership positions on its Executive Committee.
"After an extensive and thoughtful succession process, the Board is delighted to appoint Danny as JHF's next President and CEO," said Michael H. Ginsberg, JD, Chair of the Jewish Healthcare Foundation Board of Trustees. "Danny brings exceptional leadership experience, a distinguished record of innovation in health care and social services, deep community relationships, and a profound understanding of the Foundation's mission and values. Just as importantly, he assumes leadership at a moment when the Foundation's role has never been more critical.
“Health care and the social supports that protect vulnerable populations are facing unprecedented challenges. Communities across our region and nation are grappling with threats to healthcare access, public health, scientific research, and the wellbeing of populations that JHF has championed for decades. Danny is uniquely prepared to help the Foundation meet this moment."
A nationally recognized leader in aging, behavioral health, integrated health care, and community-based services, Dr. Rosen has dedicated his career to improving health outcomes and expanding access to care for vulnerable populations. Before joining JHF's leadership team, he served for more than two decades on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work, where he developed innovative educational programs, led interdisciplinary research initiatives, and secured support from federal agencies including the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and Health Resources and Services Administration.
His career has consistently focused on bridging gaps in healthcare access and improving outcomes for vulnerable populations. In addition to his academic accomplishments, he founded Wellbridge Health, a telehealth chronic disease management company that combined digital health technologies with personalized coaching to improve outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.
Dr. Rosen has also been deeply engaged in civic and nonprofit leadership throughout the region, serving as Board Chair of AgeWell Pittsburgh and Friendship Circle, and as a board member of organizations including the Allegheny Regional Asset District, Allegheny Health Choices, Inc., and the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh.
As a trustee at JHF, Dr. Rosen helped shape key initiatives focused on adolescent behavioral health, aging services, governance, and community collaboration. In 2024, he joined JHF in a consulting role and, in 2025, became the Foundation's first Executive Vice President. In that position, Dr. Rosen has worked alongside Dr. Feinstein and the senior leadership team across every aspect of Foundation operations, including strategic planning, grantmaking, external relations, financial stewardship, organizational management, and philanthropic partnerships.
"Danny's appointment reflects intentional leadership development and succession planning," said Dr. Feinstein. "Throughout this process, Danny immersed himself in every aspect of the Foundation's work. He understands the values that have guided JHF since its founding and shares a commitment to our unique history of innovation, collaboration, and meaningful impact. I am confident in his ability to lead the Foundation forward."
Since founding the Jewish Healthcare Foundation in 1990, Dr. Feinstein has built one of the nation's most respected health philanthropies, helping to shape policy, practice, and innovation in health care, aging, workforce development, patient safety, public health, behavioral health, and community health improvement. Under her leadership, JHF became known for convening diverse stakeholders regionally, nationally, and globally to address complex challenges, advancing evidence-based solutions, and investing in ideas that improve health and quality of life.
Beginning on July 1, Dr. Feinstein will take on a new title at JHF, the Alvin Rogal President and CEO Emeritus, and through this role, she will continue to support select JHF initiatives, including the Longevity Hub and the Coalition to Advance Safety Healthcare.
The leadership transition comes at a pivotal moment for health care and philanthropy. Across the country, longstanding assumptions about health, science, and social supports are being tested as healthcare systems and vulnerable populations face increasing uncertainty and pressure. Many of the values and priorities that have guided JHF's work for decades—including support for scientific research, public health, preventive care, healthcare access, and the wellbeing of vulnerable populations—face growing challenges.
Yet throughout these disruptions, healthcare leaders, community organizations, and philanthropic partners have continued to demonstrate the power of collaboration and collective action. JHF remains committed to helping communities navigate these challenges by bringing together diverse voices, identifying emerging needs, and developing practical solutions that improve lives.
"The Jewish Healthcare Foundation was founded on the belief that philanthropy can do more than respond to problems—it can help solve them," said Dr. Rosen. "Karen's vision, leadership, and relentless commitment to improving lives created a Foundation that has never been afraid to tackle difficult challenges or rethink conventional approaches.
"I have had the privilege of learning from Karen and working alongside our Board, staff, and partners as part of a thoughtful transition process. Together, we have prepared not simply for a change in leadership, but for the opportunities and responsibilities that lie ahead.
"Today, our role has never been more important. JHF occupies a unique position to identify where health care and social systems are falling short, to bring partners together around shared solutions, and to advocate for innovation and equity.”
As JHF enters its next chapter, the Foundation remains committed to advancing innovative approaches to healthcare improvement, workforce development, healthy aging, behavioral health, public health, and community wellbeing.
